Where I grew up:
I was born in California, lived in Minnesota for 6 years, then moved to Mesquite when my dad got a new job in Texas.
Favorite childhood memory:
Camping and fishing in the Land of 1,000 Lakes and playing outdoors with friends.
Were you in Scouts?
Yes.
How long?
I started Cub Scouts as a Wolf (there were no Tiger Scouts then!!), then moved up to Boy Scouts, where I worked my way up to the rank of Star. Unfortunately, I was so busy with so many things that I never made it to Eagle.
Tell about your family:
I am married to Bonnye, my awesome wife of 15 years this June. I have three kids: David, who is a Webelo Scout; Jonathan, who is moving up to Wolf; and Madeline, who will be 2 in May. We have two dogs named Melody and Harmony. Our family enjoys baseball, music, being outside, and playing the Wii! |
Occupation:
I am a band director at Poteet High School. I teach percussion, work with the drumline, and teach beginners at Kimbrough Middle School.
Favorite Color:
Poteet Green, of course!
Favorite food:
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Favorite movie/tv show:
Movie – any repeat on TNT – The Abyss, Rocky, Titanic, Star Wars, etc

Favorite Sport/team:

Baseball – Texas Rangers
Basketball – San Antonio Spurs
Any hobbies?
I enjoy woodworking. If it can be made out of wood, I’ll try it!
What do you do outside of Scouting?
I coach two baseball teams (Jonathan’s Buzz, and David’s Mariners), spend time with the Poteet Band, and try to balance way more projects than I should. I love to travel with our trailer, camping and seeing new things. I sometimes find time to sleep, too!

What is something you dream of seeing/doing in the future?
One goal of mine is to visit every state park in Texas. I think we’re very lucky to have such a great park system in our state; one that rivals those of just about any in our country! My biggest dream is to be able to watch my kids grow up and experience the great things in life. Nothing beats the look on their face when they try something new or see something impressive for the first time.
Thanks, Steve, for being our first Leader in the Spotlight! |
